Internet!

So yes, after weeks and weeks of no posting, I think I'll give it a shot again. There was no news to update on until we moved in on May 22nd. And then there was no internet until this week! I'll upload photos of the house in the next few days.

As for everything else that is going on, I have been living vicariously through Mandar and his exciting life here in Jacksonville. However, I just received a phone call from a 2nd year to see what my plans were for tonight. My plans include hanging out Mandar's classmates' condo on the beach and watching to fireworks shoot off from the pier which is across the street. Mandar's first night in the ED is tonight so I'm all alone for the first time! He's on OB this month and is working in the evenings, but has the weekends free. He also has a week of a vacation at the end of the month....his next week of vacation is in March. Bad Planning.

My job hunt continues. I had my first interview 2 weeks ago, but since I have not been called back, it isn't looking so promising. I'm going in to talk to the CEO of a private women's treatment center next week. EH! But she's friendly...I met her a month ago at an art show. I'm working connections. Or trying very hard to at least.

It's getting late here on the East Coast, so I need to prepare for celebrations tonight and make the 30 minute drive to the beach...or maybe an hour since it's nearing Rush Hour.

And the winner is...

So after a brief counter-offer...house #2 is Mandar's! So much to do now. We'll more for him, because I'm not buying it. On the to-do list is to buy a hand drill and an electric sander this weekend.

Word of advice: beware when you order gifts online and have them delivered. Two different gifts arrived on the same day; Mandar was home. No problem, he could just wonder what was in the two big boxes. Except one box had a big picture of what was inside it on the outside and the other listed in big black letters what was on the inside. So much for a surprise. Still mad about that.

For now I'm missing out on a night at Mo and O'Malley's because I'm sick.

House #2

Mandar's trip south seems successful. He put in a bid on House #2. The house was built in 1922 and was built in the American Craftsman style. It's 3 bedroom and 1 bath. The seller bought the house in June of 2006 (for 130,000) and fixed it up...new kitchen, refinished floors, painting, windows, etc. It sits on a corner lot with a large driveway for 2 cars to sit side-by-side. The backyard is completely fenced in for Gidget to play (and perhaps a new friend?).

Hopefully this one will work out. We'll know more by 8pm on the 18th.

Trip #1: playing catch-up

The first trip to Jacksonville was April 8th and the trip was semi-successful. Mandar and I spent the entire day of the 9th driving around J-ville with our Realtor Duo and found one house that we loved (built in 1939, 2 br/1bath, wood floors).

Here's how the rest of the week played out with regards to this house:
  • Listed at 189,900...short on things that other similar priced houses had (no garage, bad back yard, 1 bathroom)...on the market for 65 days
  • Bid for 175,00 and 2,000 for repairs.
  • Received counter for 185,000 and 500 for repairs
  • We re-bid at 180,000 and 1,000 for repairs
  • They countered at 186,000 and 1,000 for repairs
  • We said no thank you.
So now Mandar is in North Carolina for the night and spending tomorrow afternoon back in Florida to continue the search. I have to stay here in Norfolk this time, unfortunately, so it will be all on him.

The First Post

Welcome to my blog...created because I can not keep up with who I have updated and who I have not updated. As I make the next move of my life to Florida, I will keep updates here and photos of what is happening.
